Preheat oven to 375F
Completely grease the pan with the 1 tsp butter.
In a large bowl, whisk the dry ingredients.
Cut the butter into the dry ingredients (fork, stiff whisk, food processor, etc) until it forms into coarse crumbs.
Beat the egg in a separate bowl, then stir it and the vanilla to the dough.
The dough should be able to form a fairly smooth ball.
Transfer the dough to the pit tin, spread it out evenly.
Dock the bottom and sides to prevent bubbles from forming.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven. The crust has very likely poofed up on you. If it did, gently press down the base with a silicone spatula, and dock it again. Loosely cover just the edges with aluminum foil, return to the oven and bake until the crust is golden brown (keep a close eye on it after 5 minutes - could take up to 10). Remove and let cool completely before filling.
