Sloppy Joes
aka thicc meatsauce burger
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef regular also works, see below
- 2 cloves garlic, minced or 1/2 tsp powder with the spices
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 3/4 cup ketchup or catsup
- 1/4 tsp molasses
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire saucee
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1/2 tsp each, salt and pepper
- 6 buns split and toasted
Instructions
- Preheat skillet on medium heat.
- Add the onion and bell pepper and cook for 4-5 minutes, until starting to caramelize.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. If using garlic powder, add it with the salt&pepper.
- Add the beef, break it up and stir with a wooden spoon, and cook until browned, 8-12 minutes.If using regular ground beef, drain all but 1 tbsp of the liquid.
- Stir in the rest of the ingredients, reduce heat to low, simmer, and stir occasionally until thick. This will take anywhere from 10-25 minutes.
- Make burgers and serve!
Notes
If you're using regular ground beef, drain most of the liquid after cooking for 5 minutes.
