Meringue

Ingredients
  

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar ( almost optional )
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Instructions
 

  • Separate the eggs while cold, then let the whites come to room temperature.
  • Put egg whites into a spotlessly clean bowl.
  • Whip the egg whites until they are glossy and smooth, then add the cream of tartar to help the egg whites hold their form.
  • Slowly add the sugar to the egg whites about a tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition until the sugar is incorporated.
  • Continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  • Spread on top of whatever you're decorating, and bake 4" from the element at 350F for about 10 minutes, or until the desired colour appears.
