Corn Dogs
Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp each salt & pepper
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 16 frankfurters or hot dogs (ready to eat)
- 16 skewers
Instructions
- Preheat oil to 375 F
- Whisk dry ingredients together.
- Stir in milk and egg.
- Use a paper towel and completely dry the meat.
- Skewer each hot dog, and roll in the batter.
- Fry 2-3 at a time, turning if needed, until golden brown (approximately 3 minutes).
- Optional - serve with side dishes of mustard and ketchup

Pro tips
- make sure the meat is ready to eat, and not raw
- room temp hot dogs are best
- chilling the batter for 1-2 hours is best
- pour the batter into a tall glass for easier dipping
- can sub cornflour for the cornmeal, might need a splash of milk
