Corn Dogs

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp each salt & pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 16 frankfurters or hot dogs (ready to eat)
  • 16 skewers

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oil to 375 F
  • Whisk dry ingredients together.
  • Stir in milk and egg.
  • Use a paper towel and completely dry the meat.
  • Skewer each hot dog, and roll in the batter.
  • Fry 2-3 at a time, turning if needed, until golden brown (approximately 3 minutes).
  • Optional - serve with side dishes of mustard and ketchup

Notes

Pro tips
  • make sure the meat is ready to eat, and not raw
  • room temp hot dogs are best
  • chilling the batter for 1-2 hours is best
  • pour the batter into a tall glass for easier dipping
  • can sub cornflour for the cornmeal, might need a splash of milk
